Abstract

Summary. Introduction. In today’s wartime context, characterized by chronic stress, psychological trauma, forced displacement, and persistent security threats, there is an urgent need to prepare future teachers of English who are able to take learners’ psycho-emotional states into account while demonstrating compassion, empathy, and patience in addressing their individual educational needs and learning pace.

The aim of the article is to substantiate empathy as a psychological factor in shaping the elite linguistic personality of future teachers of English.

Methods. The study employed theoretical research methods (literature analysis, synthesis, induction, and deduction), to examine the current state of the research problem and to determine the role of empathy in shaping the elite linguistic personality of future teachers of English during English communication training.

Results. The study reveals that empathy contributes to shaping the elite linguistic personality of future teachers of English by enabling them to consider learners’ individual psychological characteristics, anticipate their responses to spoken messages, understand the dynamics of their learning process, select communicative strategies that encourage communication in English, and provide appropriate support when learners experience difficulties in processing information or anxiety while responding.

Originality. The study identifies empathy as a key psychological factor in shaping the elite linguistic personality of future teachers of English under wartime conditions.

Conclusion. Empathy is a significant psychological factor in shaping the elite linguistic personality of future teachers of English, as it enables them to understand learners’ emotions, feelings, experiences, and intentions, acknowledge their traumatic experiences and stressful situations, reduce psychological tension during English communication, create a psychologically safe learning environment, and establish trusting relationships between teachers and students.
