DEVELOPING A HARMONIOUS PERSONALITY THROUGH CHOREOGRAPHIC ARTS IN EDUCATIONAL SETTINGS

Summary. Introduction. The article examines the peculiarities of dance choreography in the context of psychological, sociocultural and therapeutic approaches. Dance is defined as a complex multidimensional phenomenon that integrates biological, psychic, and sociocultural dimensions and functions as a means of non-verbal emotional expression and personality harmonization.
The emphasis is placed on the role of dance as a form of catharsis, a medium of social communication, and a factor of psycho-emotional stabilization. It is argued that dance activity not only develops motor skills, coordination and creativity but also contributes to the formation of self-awareness, body image and a positive attitude towards one’s individuality. Special attention is paid to the analysis of contemporary trends in dance movement therapy – American, English, and German. The contribution of G. Ammon to the creation of human-structural dance therapy and M. Berger’s remarks on the eclecticism of modern methods are outlined.
Purpose: The purpose of the article is to provide a scientific justification of the peculiarities of dance choreography as a psychological, pedagogical, and therapeutic phenomenon, to determine its role in the development of the psycho-emotional sphere, self-awareness, and social adaptation, as well as to analyze contemporary concepts of dance and movement therapy in Ukrainian and foreign scientific discourse.
Methods: This study utilizes a combination of qualitative research methods, including literature review, analysis of existing choreographic practices, and case studies of prominent choreographers known for their use of improvisation in dance. A historical approach is applied to trace the evolution of improvisation in choreography. Interviews and practical exercises with contemporary choreographers further enrich the research, providing firsthand insights into how improvisation is applied in modern dance creation.
Results: It is emphasized that the practice of dance-movement therapy is based on the principles of spontaneity, kinesthetic empathy, rhythmic synchronization, and feedback, which foster communicative abilities and psychological adaptation. The article analyzes the functions of dance – from the indication of emotional states to the development of group cohesion and the harmonization of interpersonal relations.
Originality: The theoretical analysis is complemented by highlighting the practical potential of choreography as a method of psychocorrection and prevention of emotional disorders. The prospect of using dance in educational and therapeutic spaces is substantiated in order to improve mental health, develop creativity and integrate the individual into society.
In conclusion, dance is interpreted as a universal form of non-verbal cognition that provides emotional release, strengthens cognitive development, and improves the psycho-emotional well-being of the person.
