Abstract

The article provides a detailed analysis of folk pedagogy (ethnopedagogy) aspects in the context of the national (Ukrainian) pedagogical discourse of the past and the present. It is noted that over the centuries and millennia, humanity has accumulated a great deal of experience in the education and training of generations, particularly in the field of physical health as the primary basis of human existence. It is natural that each human community (group, family, race, tribe, ethnic group) gained the corresponding empirical experience, having in this both universal convergences and certain (ethnic) peculiarities.

The article focuses on the international aspect of the phenomenon of ethnopedagogy, the concepts of folk pedagogy, family pedagogy, etc., which are almost synonymous with it.

It is traced and indicated that the phenomenon of folk pedagogy in the scientific sense began to be systematically studied since the 1970s, although individual pedagogues (K. Ushynskyi, O. Dukhnovych, etc.) paid attention to this important phenomenon earlier, and in independent Ukraine, ethnopedagogy is defined as a separate branch of “general” pedagogy.

The study outlines the evolution of the empirical acquisition of folk pedagogy experience over the centuries (regarding physical health), its fixation in Ukrainian oral literature and written book monuments. Various national folklore sources (fairy tales, legends, especially paremias) were analyzed in the most detail in terms of fixing the factor of physical health in a person’s life in them, as well as a semantic alternative to health - illness, laziness, bad habits. A separate touch is noted on the Christianized concepts of soul and body in the context of physical health, on the role of folk games cultivated for centuries, militarized schools, on certain typological parallels in the pedagogy of European countries.
