Abstract

Summary. Introduction. The problem of fostering courage and moral-volitional resilience in middle and high school students is particularly relevant in the context of modern physical education, which should contribute not only to physical development but also to the formation of socially significant and volitional qualities. Applied physical training provides opportunities for creating situations that require students to overcome difficulties, demonstrate courage, perseverance, self-control, determination, and purposefulness.

Purpose. The purpose of the study was to substantiate the theoretical and methodological approaches to fostering courage and moral-volitional resilience in middle and high school students through applied physical training and to determine the pedagogical conditions for their effective development.

Methods. The study employed theoretical analysis and generalization of scientific and methodological literature, pedagogical observation, pedagogical testing, assessment of students’ volitional qualities, and a pedagogical experiment. The experimental program included a set of applied physical exercises and motor tasks aimed at developing courage, determination, perseverance, endurance, self-control, and purposefulness.

Results. The study identified the main volitional qualities that can be effectively developed through applied physical training. The pedagogical conditions contributing to effective moral-volitional education were substantiated, including systematic training, gradual complication of motor tasks, creation of situations requiring overcoming difficulties, an individual approach, positive pedagogical stimulation, and compliance with safety requirements. Criteria and indicators for assessing the levels of students’ moral-volitional resilience were proposed. The results demonstrated positive dynamics in the indicators of the experimental group.

Originality. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the substantiation and systematization of pedagogical conditions for fostering courage and moral-volitional resilience in middle and high school students through applied physical training, as well as in the development of a set of applied physical exercises and motor tasks focused on the targeted development of specific volitional qualities.

Conclusion. Purposeful use of applied physical training during physical education lessons creates favorable conditions for the comprehensive development of students’ moral and volitional sphere. The proposed approach can be used by physical education teachers to enhance students’ courage, determination, perseverance, endurance, self-control, and purposefulness, provided that the content and intensity of physical activities correspond to students’ age, individual capabilities, and safety requirements.
