Abstract

Summary. Introduction. In the current conditions of socio-economic and cultural development, while the Ukrainian language as the state language is gaining particular importance in establishing national identity, reviving the customs and traditions of the Ukrainian people, and professional self-realization, the problem of forming and developing the communicative competence of future specialists is a key task of modern higher education.

Purpose. Clarification of the essence of concepts and definition of tasks of the academic discipline “Ukrainian Language (for Professional Purposes)”, focused on the formation and development of communicative competence in future doctors through in-depth mastery of medical terminology, development of practical skills in maintaining official medical documentation, and professional communication in the state language.

Methods. Theoretical analysis of scientific sources, generalization, and systematization of collected material, comparison, modeling, and construction of practical tasks.

Results. The article defines the place and role of communicative competence in the professional training of future doctors. The use of the terms “communicative professional competence,” “professionally oriented communicative competence,” and “communicative competence of a specialist” in scientific discourse is analyzed in detail. It has been established that these concepts have different shades of meaning and are not identical in meaning. Thus, communicative professional competence primarily involves communication as an integral part of professional activity in general. At the same time, professionally oriented communicative competence is more specific and applied in nature, focusing on developing communicative skills and abilities directly within the learning process, considering the specifics of the future profession, as well as modeling typical professional communication situations. The communicative competence of a specialist is a general concept that's expressed through a mix of knowledge, abilities, and skills needed for effective communication in a professional setting. The article offers the author's interpretation of the concept of “communicative competence of a physician” as an integrated professional ability of an individual to communicate effectively and efficiently at various levels in medical practice, which ensures high-quality interaction between physicians and patients, their relatives, colleagues, and other healthcare professionals based on ethical standards, empathy, tolerance, language skills, communication culture, and professional knowledge. The example of practical classes in the discipline “Ukrainian Language (for Professional Purposes)” demonstrates how future doctors develop communication skills and abilities through innovative teaching methods and techniques, particularly when studying topics related to lexicology, medical terminology, and official business documents.

Originality. The essence of similar but not identical concepts such as “communicative professional competence,” “professionally oriented communicative competence,” and “communicative competence of a specialist” have been differentiated, the author’s definition of the term “communicative competence of a doctor” has been proposed, and examples of practical tasks for developing communicative competence in future doctors have been provided.

Conclusion. Therefore, during practical Ukrainian language classes (with a professional focus), future doctors continuously develop communication skills and abilities directly related to their professional activities in healthcare institutions.
